Our community matters

Contributing to the local community is important to the team at Fort Kinnaird. We made job creation one of our main priorities and, because of this, the last 12 months’ employment numbers broke previous Fort Kinnaird records. This was due to our focused support for job seekers, and the significant growth in the centre itself. The Recruitment & Skills Centre (RSC) at Fort Kinnaird revealed that, for the financial year up until April 2016, some 1800 vacancies were filled.

Fort Kinnaird also welcomed the Memory Bus to the site as part of Dementia Awareness week to help fundraise and promote awareness. Buddy the dog came along too and was a great hit with the children, adding light-heartedness and fun to a subject that some people find difficult to discuss. It was wonderful to be actively encouraging interaction within the community.

In April and May of this year, the centre’s staff took part in the Step Count Challenge in connection with the Scottish Government, which inspired the Fort Kinnaird team to be more active. All in all, we walked over 6450 miles – with not so much as a word of complaint or a blister! We were delighted to have raised some money for Alzheimer’s Scotland while we were at it, and look forward to participating again in September.
