Sensory Backpacks at Fort Kinnaird

At Fort Kinnaird we understand that for people with sensory, autism spectrum conditions or additional needs a visit to a busy shopping centre can be a daunting experience. To make your visit as comfortable and enjoyable as possible we have introduced free sensory backpacks and a visual social story.

The backpacks include ear defenders, earplugs, non-verbal cards, a fidget spinner, a stress ball and a reusable water bottle.

The social story is a guide which breaks down possible challenges people with autism might face during a visit to Fort Kinnaird. This will help with planning your visit, including arriving at the centre, information about the amenities and what noises, smells and bright lights can be expected during a visit to Fort Kinnaird.

The backpacks have been endorsed by Scottish Autism, a national charity dedicated to helping autistic people lead happy, healthy and fulfilling lives. The organisation has also provided postcards to be included in the packs, which include contact details for its Autism Advice Line.

To book a Sensory Backpack or pick up a copy of the Social Story call Customer Services on 0131 669 9090 Monday-Friday 9am-6pm.

You can download our Social Story.
