International Women’s Day 2023

To celebrate International Women’s Day, we are shining a spotlight on some of the many women who work at Fort Kinnaird. The team members shared some of their achievements and what this year’s theme of #Embraceequity means to them.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I’m Maggie, I’ve been working within the security industry for over 12 years and love it.

Who inspires you the most?

I find female sports teams really inspiring.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Being part of a great team!

What’s your biggest achievement in the workplace?

Working in a male dominated industry and breaking the stereotype that women can work in security.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #EmbraceEquity, what does this mean to you?

To me, embracing equity means treating everyone equally, no one should be singled out for how they feel or what they choose to do.

Lisa, Regional Marketing Manager

Tell us a bit about yourself

I’ve worked in marketing for over 15 years and have just recently relocated back to Scotland to be able to enjoy more time by the coast with my family.

Who inspires you the most?

I don’t take inspiration from one person and look for inspiration from a variety of different people. For me this can be friends and family or strong female leaders, I have recently read Michelle Obama’s autobiography and I also have a lot of respect for Joelie Brearley and Anna Whitehouse for the work they do in campaigning for women and the need for a better childcare infrastructure in the UK to support equality in the workplace.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I love how varied every day is, marketing is a very social role as you interact with so many different teams.

What’s your biggest achievement in the workplace?

I would say my biggest career achievement has been to travel and to work with so many people from different backgrounds. I’ve learned so much from having the opportunity to work with teams who are based all over the world from USA to Europe and the Middle East.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #EmbraceEquity, what does this mean to you?

I think it is about everyone playing their part to support equality, taking the time to learn and understand what you can do as an individual to make a difference.

Laura, Pharmacy Technician

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I have worked for Boots for 23 years. I joined the company with a background in hospitality. I started working in a small branch as a shopfloor assistant. I progressed then to the pharmacy side of the business and worked my way through the various training opportunities available to me reaching the position I hold now of Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician. I oversee the day to day running of the pharmacy, staff training and patient safety in store. Boots is a great company for training and learning opportunities.

Who inspires you the most?

I definitely take most inspiration from my mum who has always worked very hard and set a great example for me and my brother growing up. She always said she wanted better for us than she had growing up and to fully achieve the potential we had. She is always there for support and to offer encouragement in everything I do. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her guidance.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

The thing I love most about my role is the diversity. Every day brings a new challenge and new learning. Pharmacy gives you the opportunity to learn so much and help people in a real way when they can be feeling their worst.

What’s your biggest achievement in the workplace?

My biggest achievement for me would be all the staff I have helped train over the years. It is so fulfilling to help others learn and see how they progress. Passing on knowledge and care to others feels a privilege.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #EmbraceEquity, what does this mean to you?

Equity to me is treating every person with equal respect and care. A lesson from my mum also that to always treat others the way you want to be treated and I try to live by that.

Kim, Security Officer

Tell us a bit about you..

I have been working in security for nearly 2 years and my role at The Fort for 7 months and enjoying it.

Who inspires you the most?

My mum inspires me for being the strong and resilient woman that she is.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy getting out and about around the centre and interacting with both customers and staff.

What’s your biggest achievement in the workplace?

Being there for my team during stressful incidents, using my experience from previous roles to help manage the situation and support my colleagues.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #EmbraceEquity, what does this mean to you?

To be able to work alongside men and be treated equally and not discriminated for your sex.
